The Lancaster website was started around the time our oldest child was born in April of 2000 (Ellie). We have had times when we posted much and times when we posted little, but we’ve got the gist of our life and times in this blog.
This site started as a bunch of HTML pages, which Sean manually created and edited. In about 2002 or so, he decided to take the site to a MySQL database level and installed Postnuke — a CMS. This was really his attempt to create a blog before blogging was blogging. The site has always been a blog, but the blogging term didn’t really materialize until years after this site started. Sean has finally moved the content onto an actual blog — WordPress, which you now see.
ABOUT US
We live in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. East Grand Rapids is a small city on the east side of metropolitan Grand Rapids in Kent County, Michigan. East Grand Rapids is most noted for its excellent public schools, sports teams, large houses, high taxes, and as the setting for the film “American Pie.”
There are around 11,000 people living in this suburb, so the high school is not large, but it’s good sized. That being said, the school has a crew team, a downhill ski team, lacrosse teams, a water polo team, and all sorts of sports that many colleges would be jealous to have. Certainly not Junction City (KS) where Sean grew up or Gardner (IL) where Paula grew up.
Ellie is 10. JD is 8. Ziggy, our labradoodle (dog) is 5 years old.
Sean and Paula both are professors at Grand Valley State University, a public university in Michigan with over 24,000 students. Sean and Paula both teach in the College of Education. Sean was recognized as the Pew Teaching with Technology Award recipient for 2006 at GVSU. All full time (n=700) and part time faculty were eligible, so Sean rocks! ;~)
